Know your group members

Our lab is big, and everyone comes in with different backgrounds and expertise. Because of this, collaborations are heavily encouraged to maximize our effectiveness as researchers. Now with two collaborative spaces dedicated for our lab, FAH and SME, it is more important than ever to actively engage with fellow lab members and acquaint yourself with their unique skills and backgrounds, and explore opportunities for collaboration together.

To further foster a sense of unity and understanding among our members, we conduct lightning introduction presentations twice a year before our lab retreats for everyone to showcase their distinctive skills and personalities.

Intra-group messaging, coordination and sharing

• WeChat: WeChat is an internal group message app used for daily lab safety checks and research discussion. If you have important message that needs someone's attention, please use @<name> function.
• Google Drive: For viewing equipment SOPs, technical presentations, and other lab logistics, we use Google Drive.
• Google Calendar: We have two separate shared calendars for reserving lab equipment in FAH and SME lab. Please check in with fellow lab members to see which equipment needs to be reserved before use.

Safety training for new members

Following UCSD policies, prior to working in the lab, you must complete the following:

• UC Laboratory Safety Fundamentals in UC Learning Center
• Annual Laboratory Hazards Training in UC Learning Center
• Read and confirm the Laboratory Hazard Assessment Tool (LHAT)
